Schools in America
The United States has a public education system. We attend Western Reserve Local Schools in Berlin Center, Ohio in The United States of America.
Our school was built by construction workers and we have more than one teacher each day. Some students ride to school in a bus. We have at least four teachers each day and we have a few special classes like band, art, gym and technology. We attend the school Western Reserve Local Schools. We go to school for about 13-14 years unless you get held back or take an extra year of preschool.
We take advantage of many things. We think that it’s horrible not having this or not having that. Our school provides some of these things for us such as computers, laptops, iPads, etc. We learn about math, science, history, English, but it will get harder when we get up into the higher grades. We always say we don’t like school, We need to stop complaining and learn that having school is an amazing thing. We are privileged and we need to understand that. So, next time you say how terrible school is, think about what you say before you say it . Look at your life in a new perspective.
We enjoy many privileges. We get a ride on a school bus if we need a ride. If you don’t know what a bus is, it is a vehicle that is bright yellow and has multiple seats, but no seat belts. It has 24 seats that can fit up to three people in a seat, but only two people are allowed to sit in the seat. It always has an adult driver and you pick up a great amount of children and teens. The driver also has to memorize a route that they take to pick up these children, so they get to school on time. The school day starts at around 7:45 am and the last bell rings at 2:35 pm. The school day is around 7 hours long and some people dislike it. Some people don’t know what to think about it. A lot of people want to go home, some people only like a few subjects. We go to school Monday through Friday from September to around the beginning of June. We get off for a week for Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. We also have other holidays like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Labor Day, New Years Eve and day, and many others. Christmas is on December 25th. Some people believe that it is also Jesus’ birthday. Jesus Christ was believed to be the holy person. It’s peoples’ belief. Not all people believe this, but many do. The point is that we are all pretty different.
Students at Western Reserve have a lot of math homework to do on a daily basis and it gets hard sometimes trying to find time to do it. Typical daily homework for a middle school student ranges from two pages to four pages. School can sometimes be difficult and sometimes it may seem impossible to pass a class, but it’s for good reasons. Our school isn’t just a middle school, it also has the elementary and the high school connected to it. It has all schools built into one. We call it a K-12 campus. It took maybe a year or more to build, but it is very nice and we are a small school. We moved into the new school when we were in fourth grade. Before the new school we learned at a different school however that was torn down after we moved to the new one. It is brick on the outside with white on the inside for the walls.
In the elementary wing there is Kindergarten through 5th grade. They attend school the same days that we do, Monday through Friday. They learn how to say the Pledge, how to write in print (normal writing) and how to write in cursive (the fancy way of writing). Outside the classrooms they hang pictures that the students have drawn and also things that they have written during class. They also sing happy learning songs to make learning more fun. The elementary kids get to visit the classrooms of the next grade they have. They get to see the classroom and meet the teachers.
High School is harder than Middle school or Elementary school. In this higher level of school you have more assignments and more homework. In high school you have to choose a different language you want to learn, such as Spanish or French. You also go on trips for these languages, so that you can explore more. Each room in the school has a smart board and two dry erase boards alongside it. Every room also has big, tall wooden cabinets for storage and controls to the smart board. There are desks in every classroom including the elementary wing. In high school they have more advanced classes. These classes are Biology, P.E., and others such as band, and choir. They also have a manufacturing room to make T-Shirts. They have computer labs for projects on the web. They also have dances throughout the year like Homecoming, Prom, and Winter Formal.
Some kids and teens don’t like school because it’ s so boring. Some teachers do make learning fun though. We eat lunch every day and have breakfast in the mornings in case some students didn’t get to eat breakfast in the morning. The school is generous for letting us eat breakfast, in case we didn’t eat at home. Our school is not the biggest by far, but our school seems pretty big doesn’t it? Schools like Alliance, Salem, and Austintown are much larger. They have morning care for the kids that have to come because their parents have to work early in the morning. Lots of people play sports at our school so they have coaches stay after school to play basketball, baseball, softball, football, but some people are cheerleaders who go to the games and cheer for the players and our team.
